My letters come from a compendium of historical patterns assembled & published in France. The work is conceptually related to the installation called Attitudes (1987) and Sulking Room from the same period, ( at NGC and MBAM ) and a later work called Disease, a photo of pillow made for an exhibit of posters of various artists organised in Paris in 1993 as a SIDA fund raiser. Voltaire was made as a gift for my doctor to hang in the office.' J.S.
