Adrian Göllner 'Volume, Volume, Volume. November 8 - December 3 2006.

Göllner has been described as a site-specific satirist. Employing a variety of mediums and techniques in a chameleon-like adaptation to the environments in which he exhibits, Göllner freely combines Cold War imagery, graphing techniques and references to Modernism in artworks that critique the North American consumer culture.

‘’My intent is to satirize, but I hope I do so with a degree of subtlety. By closely emulating graphic styles and employing industrial production techniques, I am able to hide my own hand and create images and objects that defy easy interpretation as art. The results are mildly subversive.
The Phrase Series of low-relief sculptures are on the edge between art and design. The industrial precision with which the steel is cut, the textured powder-coat paint finishes, and lattice-like patterns suggest that these pieces were produced as decorative metal work for the urban dweller. Where the series turns is on the discovery that the patterning is in fact Morse Code and the phrase are the mantras of commerce: Location, Location, Location; Volume, Volume, Volume; Win, Win, Win and Sell, Sell, Sell. The pieces then become mildly cynical.
The Printable Ikea Series continues the wry tone. In this instance, the smart, mass-marketed designs of Ikea are made art by inking and printing their surfaces. The results appear decidedly modern and the viewer is again left to ponder the relationship of art, design and value.’’

Since graduating from Queen’s University in 1987 with a BFA in sculpture, Göllner has made his home in Ottawa. while continuing to exhibit nationally and internationally, he has received a number of public art commissions, including one for the new Canadian Embassy in Berlin, which was completed in 2005.
