Jessica Campbell Learning to Live With Your Aloneness December 15 - January, 2013
Galerie Laroche/Joncas is very pleased to present "Learning to Live With Your Aloneness" an exhibition of new paintings by Jessica Campbell.
This will be the artist's first solo exhibition with the gallery. The title of the exhibition comes from the following text written by the artist.
"A man is going to get on the bus. You will already be sitting in a window seat, the preferable position for a 10 hour overnight ride. But the man will not have this option. You, hoping against hope that no one sits next to you and that you might use your neighbouring seat as a cheeto-hosting coffee table for 10 hours, will particularly hope that he not sit next to you. He is going to be very short, with bleached white hair, a cropped mesh tank top and leather pants, ones that can't possibly be comfortable to wear on an overnight bus trip. But, hell, they're not your pants. He is going to sit next to you. Of course he is, the weirdest looking dude on the bus, how could be not sit next to you. You are going to be concerned that he'll talk to you. I mean, he'll look like a talker, after all. Only, he isn't. Or, at least, he won't, opting instead to pull out a book. You'll peer over his shoulder so that you can read the title, and the title will be "Learning to Live With Your Aloneness."
Born in Victoria, B.C., Jessica Campbell is a painter. She completed a BFA in painting at Concordia University, Montréal, she is now an MFA candidate at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
