Lawrence Beck 'Thickets' October 4- November 5 2006
ProjexMtl Galerie is very pleased to present photographs by Lawrence Beck organized with the collaboration of Sonnabend Gallery in New York
This is the 2nd time Lawrence Beck’s photographs have been exhibited in Montréal at ProjexMtl Galerie. For this exhibition, 10 large-format Silver gelatin prints from the ‘Thickets’ series will be presented.
The ‘Thickets’ series continue Beck’s investigations of the ‘natural’ world and the way we interpret it. The overgrown vegetation on trees and shrubs around New York city where Beck photographed this series, creates sculptural forms in the landscapes. He uses an 8 x 10 camera to capture the meticulous detail of vines and the tangle of vegetation that create abstract lines and shapes.
Identified only by roman numerals that evoke a distant past, the rich selenium toned prints remain timeless.
Lawrence Beck lives and works in New York city.
He is represented by Sonnabend Gallery in New York, and Galerie Rodolphe Janssen in Brussels. His photographs are found in many public and private collections in USA and Europe.
