Michel Denée 'Foundations' December 6 - January 21 2007.
“The motif of the painting within the painting on which I have been working for many years has crystallized itself into a new series of paintings where the image of ‘light shafts’ has appeared.
This series questions as much the clear rooms found in the early Renaissance paintings as much as the phenomenological ‘void’ characteristic of minimalism. The perspective reappears in this series on the same grounds of its deconstruction, in order to reinterpret once again the divine comedy of a wall transfigured by the zenithal light.
Still life genre paintings are also presented in this exhibition revisiting the suprematist aesthetic in the formal tradition of the 17th century. Although the history of painting is still the fundamental motif of my research.”
